Between the beautiful Serra dos Candeeiros and about 3 km from the historic city of Alcobaça, was born in 2013 the Royal Abbey Congress & Spa, a 4-star eco-hotel, awarded with the Green Key, thought and built thinking about the Environment and its guests.

Sustainability

Aware of the importance of good environmental practices, the Royal Abbey Congress & Spa, holder of the Green Key Award and with the European Ecological Label, develops measures to preserve the environment of the region where it operates. In addition to reducing energy consumption, optimizing resources and managing packaging waste, food oils used by a certified company are also collected.

The restaurant, with a view to nature, offers a kitchen based on local products, giving preference to seasonal products. Here the apple and the conventual sweets are kings and masters in such a rich and tasty menu.

What to do

Located between the Serra dos Candeeiros and the city of Alcobaça, the Royal Abbey Congress & Spa, is a few kilometers from several areas of great ecological interest such as the Ribeira do Mogo Valley, the coastal beaches and the fluvial beach of Alpedriz, the lagoon of Pataias and the Mata do Vimeiro. Take advantage of the bicycles that the hotel offers free of charge and go exploring!

It is impossible to pass through Alcobaça without visiting its mythical Monastery where we can admire the endless love of Pedro and Inês. The National Wine Museum is only 2 km away and the iconic Batalha Monastery is 25 minutes away by car. The beaches, such as Baía de São Martinho and Nazaré, are about 15 minutes away by car.


How to get there

Train – The West Line is a fantastic train line to travel through magical places like the Moorish Castle, the Pena Palace and the town of Óbidos. The closest station to the Royal Abbey Congress & Spa is about 10 km away, in Valado dos Frades. Learn more about the schedules at www.cp.pt

Bus – There are bus connections to Alcobaça from various points in the country, including Porto and Lisbon. For more information about the bus timetable go to www.rede-expressos.pt

Bus – Coming from Lisbon take the A1 or the A8. If you choose the A1, exit at the junction of Aveiras and follow the IC2 until you find indications in the direction of Alcobaça, at km 81 (Venda das Raparigas), where you can follow the EN 8-6, passing by Benedita, Turquel and Évora de Alcobaça.

If you come from the North, follow the A1 until the Leiria junction and there look for the A8 indications. Getting on the A8, follow until the junction of Valado dos Frades and, leaving the highway, take the EN8-5 until Alcobaça, the road that connects this city to Nazaré.
